Saving a Word file as a .doc

This year, we upgraded staff laptop computers to Microsoft Office 2008. To ensure compatibility with those still using older versions of Office, we request that documents be saved as .doc rather than the default .docx file format.

Here’s what you need to do:
  1. When saving a new document, go to the “File” menu and then “Save As”.
  2. A dialog box will open up and you will see options to select the file type you want to Save As. You should select: Word 97 - 2004 Document (.doc)
  3. You can use the same method for Excel and Powerpoint documents.
