This Week at Canterbury: November 18

Canterbury students have the opportunity to purchase healthy snacks for 50¢ every Wednesday morning from the Student Council snack cart as a part of our focus on health and wellness.

Good Afternoon Canterbury Families,

A few years ago, we made the decision to hold our elementary school concerts in the evening at Greendale High School. This gave parents an opportunity to view their children’s performances in a comfortable venue and at a time more friendly for most parents to attend. The change in the concert location and time has received positive support from our families. The one area cited as a concern by our parents is the length of the concerts. Concerts lasting over one and a half hours make meeting bedtimes difficult for some of our younger students. We have also had concerns over audience members leaving during the performance, which leaves our last performers with a much smaller audience.

We would like to restructure our concert plan for our December 13 concert at 6:00 p.m. at GHS. In addition to Choir, the concert will continue to showcase vocal performances of all students (K5-5) in our school. The instrumental (band/orchestra) portion of the program to will be moved to January 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Canterbury. In addition to the shortened time, the January concert will give our new musicians an additional month of practice and lessons. We are also hopeful that the smaller venue, in a familiar setting, will help children feel less anxious for their first official concert.

The Spring Concert will remain the same with students in third, forth and fifth grades performing, along with the Band, Orchestra and Choir. We will be reviewing the December concert change later in the year and appreciate parent and family feedback.

Please check this Weekly for important information regarding various school and district activities. We will not be sending out a Weekly next week due to the short week. Don’t forget that we don’t have school from Wednesday, November 23 through Friday, November 25 due to conferences and Thanksgiving Break. As always, please contact me with any Good News or questions at 423-2770 or christian.pleister@greendale.k12.wi.us.
