Greendale Education Foundation Kicks Off Annual Appeal; Announces KidBooster Program

The Greendale Education Foundation, Inc. launched its annual appeal with a mailing of its appeal letter to parents, alumni, and other school and community stakeholders to raise funds to help their mission of bringing together support and resources to meet the needs of students, educators, families and community members.

The Foundation was established in 1998 to generate financial support for educational opportunities for Greendale students. The group’s efforts have resulted in funding over $280,500 in student projects and learning opportunities.

“Today’s struggling economy provides even more challenges for students and that early support is the key to unlocking the long-term potential of each child,” says Foundation President Grant Johnson. “To that end, the Foundation has recently developed The KidBoosters Program.”

The program was founded by board members Judy Fons and William H. Hughes in the summer of 2012. It is their collective vision that the Fund will advocate for all Greendale children, regardless of their circumstances, to be successful in school. It’s designed to provide struggling kids with a little “boost” in life.

This new fund began as a response to the increasing number of Greendale children and families living in low-income households. These children may have less than adequate access to simple but important things like reading books at home, healthy foods, a new coat, new shoes, school supplies or the fees for school field trips.

In addition, the Foundation has funded such things as a new state-of-the-art sound system for the Greendale High School Auditorium, student service-learning projects such as Empty Bowls and Nourish, literacy and math programs, other projects that support student education and development. Now through The KidBoosters Program, the Foundation will also be able to help individual students or families directly.

The Foundation raises funds through direct donations, business partnerships, bequests or memorials and fundraising activities such as this appeal and the annual Celebration of Education, which will be held on June 7, 2013 at Tuckaway Country Club.
