The Open Enrollment Program is Wisconsin's inter-district public school program, which allows students to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. Students are accepted by nonresident districts based on availability of space at each grade level and priorities set by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Parents are responsible for providing transportation. The application dates for this program are February 4-April 30, 2013. If you want to apply for Open Enrollment, you are encouraged to apply on-line using the DPI’s on-line application system (OPAL) at this link. Please note that OPAL will not be available until February 4th. During the application period, a computer will be available in the Greendale School District Office for your use in accessing OPAL. Limited paper applications will be available at the District Office only. Parents must submit paper applications to the Greendale School District, 6801 Southway, Greendale, WI 53129, no earlier than February 4 and no later than 4 p.m. on April 30, 2013. A postmark does not meet this requirement.

Applications for the Open Enrollment Program must be submitted in the nonresident district. Please note that state law requires that we strictly adhere to these application dates. Further information about Open Enrollment is available at the Public School Open Enrollment Homepage. Students currently attending our schools under Open Enrollment do not need to reapply unless notified to do so, however, students currently attending under a Tuition Waiver must apply for Open Enrollment during the application period. Please realize that Tuition Waiver students are not guaranteed an Open Enrollment seat. In addition, if you move before the end of the year, we will help you complete necessary paperwork for your child to continue in our school district until the year ends.

The number of seats available is based on the projected enrollment for the 2013-14 school year. At the January 21, 2013 Board Meeting, the Greendale School Board approved 13 seats at 6th grade and 3 seats at 7th grade.

Direct questions about the Open Enrollment Program to:

Colleen McHugh-Moore
Director of Pupil Services
(414) 423-2714

The Open Enrollment application period will be held from February 4-April 30, 2013.

The Greendale Education Foundation, Inc. launched its annual appeal with a mailing of its appeal letter to parents, alumni, and other school and community stakeholders to raise funds to help their mission of bringing together support and resources to meet the needs of students, educators, families and community members.

The Foundation was established in 1998 to generate financial support for educational opportunities for Greendale students. The group’s efforts have resulted in funding over $280,500 in student projects and learning opportunities.

“Today’s struggling economy provides even more challenges for students and that early support is the key to unlocking the long-term potential of each child,” says Foundation President Grant Johnson. “To that end, the Foundation has recently developed The KidBoosters Program.”

The program was founded by board members Judy Fons and William H. Hughes in the summer of 2012. It is their collective vision that the Fund will advocate for all Greendale children, regardless of their circumstances, to be successful in school. It’s designed to provide struggling kids with a little “boost” in life.

This new fund began as a response to the increasing number of Greendale children and families living in low-income households. These children may have less than adequate access to simple but important things like reading books at home, healthy foods, a new coat, new shoes, school supplies or the fees for school field trips.

In addition, the Foundation has funded such things as a new state-of-the-art sound system for the Greendale High School Auditorium, student service-learning projects such as Empty Bowls and Nourish, literacy and math programs, other projects that support student education and development. Now through The KidBoosters Program, the Foundation will also be able to help individual students or families directly.

The Foundation raises funds through direct donations, business partnerships, bequests or memorials and fundraising activities such as this appeal and the annual Celebration of Education, which will be held on June 7, 2013 at Tuckaway Country Club.

For more information or to make a donation, please visit: www.efgreendale.org
