February 24, 2012 | Posted by Leni Dietrich

Highland View staff and students celebrate reading nearly 600,000 minutes so far this year.
Dear Highland View Parents/Guardians:
In order to celebrate Youth Art Month, the Greendale Public Library will have an exhibit of student art during the month of March. A number of Highland View students will have art on display, as will all the schools in the district. If you visit the library during the month, please take time to look at their work.
Today marks the end of the second trimester of school. As a staff, we are amazed at how our students have grown and look forward to a great last trimester of the year.
Important News...

The Greendale Schools Nourish - Mind, Body and Environment Expo will take place on Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Greendale High School. This family friendly event will feature vendors, resource booths, exhibits, demonstrations and other activities related to living a healthy and environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The keynote speaker will be author and registered nurse Dr. John D. Shier RN, Ph.D. For more information, please click here.
Read Across America is coming! Our Read Across America celebration will last throughout the week with students having the opportunity to answer Seuss trivia questions, decorate their classroom door in honor of Dr. Seuss, dine on green eggs and ham and have a slice of birthday cake. On March 2, in conjunction with Dr. Seuss’ birthday and our Read 20 program, Highland View staff and students will perform a Reader’s Theater of “The Lorax” at a school assembly. The book exchange that took place at our Family Literacy Night was such a success we would like to repeat it. We are therefore asking students to bring a "gently used" book to school during the week of February 28. Then, on March 2 all Highland View students will have the opportunity to choose a new book and have some quiet time at the end of the day to enjoy reading it. Friday, March 2 is also pajama day, as we all want to be comfy as we read!
Highland View’s Open House is scheduled for April 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Our building will become a museum of sorts and should look a bit different from previous years. For more information, please click here.
On Friday, March 9, Señorita Bradley has the opportunity to attend and present at a Midwest Regional World Language Educators Conference here in Milwaukee. As a result, she will be unable to attend parent-teacher conferences that morning at Highland View. She will, however, be at conferences on Thursday night. If you would like to set up an alternate time to meet with her for Friday morning, please don't hesitate to call her at extension 2102 or by email at jessica.bradley@greendale.k12.wi.us to set up a time to do so.
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Funfair has been changed from Friday, May 11 to Friday, May 18. Please mark your calendars!
Monday, February 27 is our Mid-Winter Break. Students will return to school on Tuesday, February 28.
Pajama Day
Students are invited to wear their favorite pajamas to school on March 2 for our Read Across America celebration.

The Spring Book Fair is coming to Highland View March 5 through March 9. The book fair will be open during lunch hours, conferences and after school until 3:45 p.m. We will be collecting for One For Books. Students can choose to donate their change so Highland View can earn more free books.
Volunteers/chairs are wanted for the 2012-13 school year for the Fall and Spring Book Fairs, Box Tops, Market Day and Milk Caps. These opportunities require little time and are great to team up on with a friend. Please contact Amanda Kachikis if you’d like more information regarding what is involved.
The Market Day Pie Contest is taking place. Market Day sheets went home last week. Families can always go on the Market Day website and order this way. There's no minimum to order and free shipping. If HV orders at least 100 pies, we'll increase our earnings from 15% to 30%!
