This Week at Highland View: September 2

Dear Highland View Parents/Guardians:

Thank you to everyone who attended the Welcome Back Night. It was great to see families in the building and students so excited to return. Thank you to the PTO officers for their putting together the Meet and Greet following the classroom visits.

We look forward to a great year with our students and thank you again for sharing your child/children with us. We take great joy from working with them.

Important News...

Updated Calendar
Attached you will find an updated calendar for the school year. The calendar that families received at Forms and Fees Day can be discarded, as the attached one is more complete. We have extra copies in the office, if needed.

District Annual Meeting - September 19
The Board of Education will hold the Greendale School District Annual Meeting on Monday, September 19, 2011 in the Greendale High School Auditorium. The Budget Hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Annual Meeting at 7:30 p.m. We hope you will join us to hear an update on the Greendale School District's achievements and plans for the future.

Child Development Days
The Greendale School District will hold Child Development Days at College Park School on Wednesday, September 7, from 3-6:00 p.m. and on Thursday, September 8, from 8-11:00 a.m. and from 3-6:00 p.m.

The district's annual child-find program screens three- and four-year-old Greendale residents to assess vision, hearing, language, early learning, motor and social skills. Families will have the opportunity to discuss screening results and concerns with District specialists. Local organizations will have booths related to early childhood development, and handouts in many areas of child development will be available. The program takes approximately one hour. Please contact the Greendale School District Office at (414) 423-2715 for information and to register your child.

Change to Nurse Practitioner Program
The Greendale School District provides students with access to the services of a nurse practitioner, at no cost to parents, through the Aurora Nurse Practitioner program. The nurse practitioner can see students for athletic physicals, to monitor chronic conditions, and to triage health problems. Due to changes in Aurora's school-based health initiatives, the nurse practitioner can no longer write scripts for students at this time. For more information on the program, please click here.

Asbestos Notification
The Greendale School District has a list of the location(s) and type(s) of asbestos containing materials found in the building and a description and timetable for their proper management. A copy of the Asbestos Management Plan is available for review in the school office. Copies are available at twenty-five (25) cents per page. Our goal is to be in full compliance with AHERA. It is our policy to maintain a safe and healthful environment for our students and our staff members. This shall be accomplished by strict enforcement of the policies regarding asbestos by the manager and the school officials.

The Greendale School District also requires that all new building materials introduced into the School District are free from asbestos. For all new buildings/additions, the architect responsible for the design certifies that to the best of their knowledge, no asbestos containing materials are used. If new buildings are acquired, they too will be inspected.

The Greendale School District has completed another 3-Year Re-Inspection of remaining materials.
