First Grade students held an end of the year celebration to thank their community reading buddies.
Good Afternoon College Park Families,
Congratulations to our third, fourth and fifth grade students who presented an amazing concert last night. It was a delightful evening of music. Thanks to Ms. Kovacic for her work organizing the event, and conducting all classroom groups, as well as our choir. We also appreciate the work of Miss Brody and Mrs. Pachniak as they led our young instrumentalists this year. Most importantly, thank you to our students for the wonderful performance you gave.
The Greendale Schools Board of Education has announced the selection of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA) to assist with the District’s search for the next Superintendent. Dr. William Hughes will leave the District on July 1, 2012. Learn More...
Q. What is the Celebration of Education?
A. It’s the Education Foundation’s annual fundraiser on June 1 (formerly Night of the Arts). This event will also honor this year's retirees, and we invite you to come and say goodbye and thank you to this year's retirees.
Q. What is the Education Foundation of Greendale?
A. The Foundation is a 501c3 organization that raises money to fund innovative educational programs and opportunities for Greendale Schools. We’ve been around since 1998, and donated more than $270,000 in that time for classroom projects.
Q. What does the Foundation do for Greendale schools?
A. There are many needs in our district that the Education Foundation helps meet when teachers write grants. From Lunch Bunch Book Clubs for elementary students, to iPads for middle school math, to college scholarships for Greendale seniors, we support children and schools.
The main grants we funded this past year were:
- Greendale High School Auditorium Sound System Upgrades - $20,000
- 26 iPads for Eighth Grade Math - $10,000
- Love & Logic Parent Training - $3,700
- Digital Music Creation and Recording Studio at GMS - $2,300
Q. Why should I attend the Celebration of Education night?
A. By buying a ticket for Celebration, participating in a raffle or purchasing an auction item, you are supporting classroom projects in Greendale Schools. Plus, you’ll enjoy live music from the Greendale High School Jazz Band, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Today’s TMJ4 news anchor Vince Vitrano will be our emcee. Finally, there will be a special video presentation in honor of our outgoing superintendent, Dr. William Hughes.
Q. Where can I buy tickets for Celebration of Education?
A. Tickets are $30 each, and can be purchased at Greendale High School, Greendale Park and Recreation Department, the Greendale Visitor Center, or from our website, www.efgreendale.org.
Investing In Our Future
We are close to meeting our goal of One Million CP Dollars, allowing us the opportunity to hold our all school picnic. Don’t forget to keep turning in your math and reading forms each week. There is a close race for which class will have the opportunity to play the teachers in kickball at our picnic!
Wednesday, May 23
- Dress for your favorite healthy activity (sports team, cheer, dance, outdoor activities, healthy eating, etc.)
- Wear Your Investing in Your Future Green T-Shirts
- Students will share a sample of their healthy choice activities for the school at 1:20 p.m., including Cheer, Gymnastics and Dance
- We will have an all school walk (with a jogging option) at 1:30 p.m.
Reminder: Summer School Deadline is May 25!
Students in recommendation courses need to have forms turned in by May 18, all other summer school enrollments need to be turned in by May 25. If you are planning on having your children attend it is important to have the forms returned to the school office as quickly as possible. Please remember that we cannot accept late registrations.
Summer school information can be easily accessed through our website. There is a summer school link on the school homepage or you can click here. The forms may be completed and returned to your school office. Several people have had questions regarding summer school. Here are a few in case other families have similar questions:
Q. May we still sign up if we will not be able to attend the full five weeks?
A. We understand that families plan vacations and special activities over the summer. Teachers will gladly make arrangements for students who may need to miss a few days or a week of summer school. Please let your child’s teacher and the summer school office know when your child will not be attending.
Q. My child is in the Summer Adventure Club at GMS. Will he or she still be able to take courses held at Canterbury?
A. Yes, we will have teaching assistants available to walk students back and forth between the two buildings.
Q. Band and orchestra full group times overlap with both summer school session times. Does this mean my child cannot take classes if they want to be in music?
A. The schedule was planned so that students would only miss a short portion of each class while attending orchestra and band classes. Teachers will work with students to keep them caught up and this will not be a problem.
