This Week at College Park: April 6
April 05, 2012 | Posted by Kerry Owens-Bur

Fourth grade students work on their Community of the Future exhibit for Museum Night on May 2.
Good Afternoon College Park Families,
Our celebration of Investing in our Future was a great end to our week. Students enjoyed a special lunch, went on an all school walk and the winning classes enjoyed their treasure hunt. We will continue to collect CP dollars as we work toward our end of the year picnic.
Keep reading, practicing math and making healthy choices over break!
The class earning the most points between April 16 and June 5 will win the opportunity to take on the College Park staff in a kickball game at the all school picnic.
Spring Break
Spring break began Friday April 6 and will run through next week. Students will return to school on Monday, April 16. We hope you are all able to enjoy time with family and friends during your time off.

Summer school information can be easily accessed through our website. There is a summer school link on the school homepage or you can click here. The forms may be completed and returned to your school office. Space in the classes is limited so it is important to sign up early to be sure to have a spot in your preferred classes. The last day for registrations to be accepted is May 25. In the past, we have had some disappointed families when students were not enrolled prior to the deadline. We will be unable to grant exceptions to this deadline so please be sure to plan accordingly.
If you have any questions regarding the elementary summer school program, feel free to contact Kerry Owens-Bur at (414) 423-2851 or kerry.owens-bur@greendale.k12.wi.us.
Ava's Walk on Sunday, April 22
The 2nd annual walk in memory of Ava Marie Zimmerman to advocate for vehicle awareness will be held on Sunday, April 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Village of Greendale. Please click here for additional information and event details.
Highland View will have the opportunity to host an author visit for our fourth and fifth grade students on May 1. Michael Buckley is the author of two best-selling series, The Sisters Grimm Mysteries and The N.E.R.D.S. He will give a 30-40 minute presentation with question and answers and then students will have the opportunity to have a pre-purchased book signed by him at a book signing directly after the presentation. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Thomas, Elementary Library Support Specialist linda.thomas@greendale.k12.wi.us. For a book order form, please click here.
Important Dates:
Wednesday, April 18 – College Park PTO Meeting
Focus on Family Involvement and Communication Strategies!
The PTO meeting originally scheduled at GMS will be held here at College Park. We will be using our survey results to help guide decisions for future years. We are hoping many parents can join us, as we consider ways to include families in school activities, strategies to improve communication and plan for next year. We encourage all interested parents to attend. If you have not had an opportunity to complete our very short survey, there’s still time. Click on the link found on the SchoolMessenger email. We would like to have the survey information by Friday, April 13. We will meet in the IMC at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 2 – College Park’s Museum Night (formerly Open House)
Join us on the evening of May 2 as we give tours of the College Park Museum. Students will share exhibits related to Investing in our Futures. In lieu of a traditional open house, each student will serve as a docent guiding visitors through their classroom exhibits. Ask your child about his/her exhibit, as I know children have been working on their projects.
Wednesday, April 17 – College Park Spring Concert
Students in third, fourth and fifth grade will be presenting at our Spring Concert on April 17 at Greendale High School. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Students should report to the high school at 6:15 p.m. and report to their assigned rooms. In addition to our classroom performances, the choir, band and orchestra will also perform.
Tuesday, June 5 – All School Picnic!
It looks like we are on track to earn 1,000,000 CP Dollars! As a reward for this hard work, students will have an all school picnic on June 5. We will be holding our primary Olympic Day events in conjunction with the picnic. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities to help out on that day.
