This Week at College Park: November 11

During literacy time, fifth grade students take part in a variety of reading and writing activities.

Good Afternoon College Park Families,

This week our iPad carts arrived at school and teachers received training to begin using them with students. Thanks to the third grade students who walked me through their use and many activities available on the devices! It amazes me how quickly our children are able to learn and use new technologies. The iPads will be a great tool in learning, offering students new opportunities to acquire and share knowledge and also practice skills.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Reminding families that the front driveway is only to be used to drop off or pick up students! Parking is not allowed in the driveway. It is also important that students exit cars on the curbside of the driveway. Drivers need to move as far down the lane as possible when dropping off or picking up. This allows cars behind you to move into the lane and off of the street.

Students are not allowed to pass between cars on the right side to enter cars in the left lane. We ask that parents help us enforce this rule by not asking students to do so. The left lane must be kept open for cars to move through. With cold weather approaching we also remind parents that vehicles may not be left running and unattended at any time! This is a great danger to our students and families.

Please Consider This Opportunity to Give Back to our Community
Don’t forget our Pint Size Hero Blood Drive is Monday from 2-6 p.m. You can still sign up for a spot online at www.redcrossblood.org. We are also able to take some walk-ins so if your time opens up on Monday, feel free to stop by.
Thanks to our Student Council Empathy Committee for helping to promote and organize the event.

Get Fit, Get Active Disney Challenge
We hope you are still busy tracking your activity points. The Get Fit, Get Active contest ends November 26. Forms should be turned in on Monday November 29. We hope the warm fall temperatures have allowed you and your family time to exercise daily. Students turning in forms will earn 100 College Park Dollars. If you have misplaced your form, you may get a new one by clicking here.

WKCE Testing
We have one final week of testing for our fifth grade students. Thanks to all of our families for helping make sure students are here and ready to do their best each day.

College Park’s Celebration of Holidays
We will be holding a holidays of the world craft night on Friday, December 9. More details regarding specific times will be coming soon. Be sure to hold the date for this new event. Each student who attends will earn 100 CP Dollars toward our school goal.

Investing In Our Future
Our goals for the year are to invest in our future by:
  • Reading at least 100 minutes (outside of school) each week
  • Practicing math skills at home by playing family games or online programs
  • Making healthy choices and
  • Building a respectful community
Students earn 100 CP Dollars for completing each activity. Forms can be found for math and reading on your teachers’ websites. The Get Fit, Get Active form is available by clicking on the link above.

Greendale’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be November 25 in front of Village Hall, 6500 Northway. The Greendale High School Choir will lead the crowd in a community sing-along of carols starting at 6:30 p.m. Village President, John R. Hermes, will then lead the crowd in counting down to the lighting of the holiday lights and shortly after that, Santa Claus will arrive to provide treats to all the good little boys and girls.
