This Week at College Park: March 23

CPE-03-23
Second grade students compare historical information found while reading.

Good Afternoon College Park Families,

We’re not sure if it is the beautiful weather inspiring students to walk and bike to school or the classroom competition to earn CP Dollars, but we have seen a very large increase in our “Investments in our Future.” The fifth grade classrooms are in a close competition for earning an egg hunt in April and several classes are close to catching up.

Whatever the reason, we are thrilled to know that our students are spending time reading at home, practicing math facts and making healthy choices. It looks like we will be making our goal of 1,000,000 CP Dollars. Our picnic is planned for June 5.

Summer School
Summer school information can be easily accessed through our website. There is a summer school link on the school homepage or you can click here. The forms may be completed and returned to your school office. Space in the classes is limited so it is important to sign up early to be sure to have a spot in your preferred classes. The last day for registrations to be accepted is May 25. In the past, we have had some disappointed families when students were not enrolled prior to the deadline. We will be unable to grant exceptions to this deadline so please be sure to plan accordingly.

If you have any questions regarding the elementary summer school program, feel free to contact Kerry Owens-Bur at (414) 423-2851 or kerry.owens-bur@greendale.k12.wi.us.

Last Chance for Lost and Found
Our lost and found table is not quite as full as most winters, but we do have a number of unclaimed items. If you are missing items please remind your child to check the main hallway area for missing hats, gloves, boots, etc. We will be disposing of all items left prior to Spring Break.

Parent Action Team
Our Parent Action Team is a joint effort between our school staff and parents to address the needs of our school. The team sets goals for student success based on our school improvement plans and other identified needs. Our hope is to find meaningful ways to include families in their child’s education. The team meets every one to two months to set goals, assess progress and plan events.

This year we used the “Investing in our Future” theme to encourage students to read outside of school, use family and online games to practice math, make healthy choices and create a respectful community. The group sponsored the Math Night in October and the Holidays Around the World event in December. At the district level, the teams helped organize the district’s Nourish Expo. We will be looking for one or two new members for next year’s team. If you would be interested in serving on this team please contact Kerry Owens-Bur.

Second and Fifth Grade Testing
Students in second grade will be taking part in standardized testing the week of March 26. Parents will be receiving a more detailed schedule in the next week. The tests in second grade help our school and district measure student growth and progress during their primary learning experience.

Fifth grade will also be conducting testing during two afternoons next week.

Support Greendale Park and Recreation by Shopping at The Learning Shop
When you shop The Learning Shop, 5431 S. 76th Street, the week of March 19 through March 25, let the clerk know that you would like your purchase to be credited to the Greendale Park and Recreation Department.
