This Week at College Park: September 30

Kindergarten students enjoy their indoor recess activities.
Good Afternoon College Park Families,
We would like to send a big thank you to Andrea Bender and Robin Ranjbar for their work organizing last week’s Welcome Back Picnic. We welcomed over one hundred students and family members to our playground for a delightful evening of outdoor play and conversation. We are very happy so many families were able to make it.
Please click here for a letter to parents from Dr. William H. Hughes, Superintendent of Schools.
Today, we took our first all-school walk to kick off our Get Fit Get Active Challenge. Students had a chance to hear about the program before our walk. Each week between October 3 and November 26, students should spend at least 20 minutes taking part in a physical activity. This can include walking or biking to school, playing outside with friends, taking a family walk, attending structured sports or dance activities or any other healthy activity. Students will earn 100 CP Dollars for participating, and our school will win a chance to earn a Radio Disney Dance Party! Forms were sent home with all students or you can download a form by clicking here.
Investing In Our Future
Students should continue to read 100 minutes each week. Parents should send in a form to teachers each Monday documenting the reading time. We are also looking for pictures of families playing games or students working on math games on line. These activities will also earn 100 CP Dollars as we work toward earning $1,000,000. Additional forms can be downloaded here.
Step Up to Better Health Walk/Run
Wow! We have over 150 people signed up for the walk/run on October 16. That is a new College Park record. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up prior to the September 23 school deadline, you may still do so at the Greendale Health Department. As we met our goal of 100 participants, Mrs. Owens-Bur is looking for other novice runners to join her in a slow-paced 5K. We will have a number of other teacher runners, at various levels of speed, for interested students and families to run with. For those of you who are faster, look for Ms. Lemke and Ms. Bigley! We are looking forward to a great day!

Students coming to school for choir, band and orchestra rehearsals should enter through “door 10” which is off of the playground on the east side of school. Students should report directly to the music room or gym for rehearsals.
Only students assigned to the bus may ride to or from school. We have had numerous requests for friends to ride the bus home after school that we are unable to honor. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation with this.
Be sure to join us on Tuesday, October 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. for a math and science night. Families are invited to school to play math games from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Teachers will have Everyday Math and board games available for families. The computer lab will be open for families wishing to access Everyday Math on-line games. Families will also have the chance to explore math activities using our iPod Touches. At 7:00, we will welcome back our “Mad Scientist” for a half hour family presentation in the gym. Thanks to our PTO for funding this assembly! We hope you can join us.
All Greendale parents are encouraged to attend the first of 3 District Parent Information Nights (PIN) to be held on October 12 at GMS.
