Wild About Cheer
August 16, 2008 Filed in: Greendale High School

Camp Iwannacheer was held the week of July 28 at Greendale Middle School. Led by 30 instructors including high school coaches and cheerleaders, 160 campers participated in the 7th annual summer cheer camp. This year’s camp theme was “Wild About Cheer.”
During the camp, students from 1st through 8th grade were placed in groups by grade level where they learned cheer skills such as jumps, motions drills, dance, tumbling and stunting. Varsity cheerleaders were assigned to the various age groups. They choreographed a two-minute cheer routine for their "team" which was age and skill-appropriate for each grade level. On the final day of camp, the routines were performed for family and friends at a Pep Rally.
Each day the campers created a craft which corresponded to the day’s theme. On "Wild About Water Day," campers tie-dyed socks and participated in water games, a great way to cool off on the hottest day of the year!
Camp Iwannacheer is a popular summer event. Most of the attendees are Greendale students, but there are also campers from surrounding communities and from as far away as New York and France! As many parents schedule vacations around the annual summer cheer camp, the date has already been set for next year. Camp Iwannacheer will be held August 3-7, 2009.
