Greendale Board of Education Approves Modifications to 2012-13 School Calendar
February 21, 2012
The Greendale School District Board of Education unanimously approved modifications to the 2012-13 School Calendar on February 20.
“We were given the opportunity to review and reorganize our school calendar to meet the needs of our students, families and staff,” said Greendale Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Hughes. “We harvested input from faculty at every school and feedback from parents through Partners for Community Action to create a calendar that has value for everyone.”
The updated calendar is more family-friendly and eliminates all school half days with the exception of the last day of school on June 14, 2013. The calendar also organizes for all days off to connect to a weekend, making scheduling and arranging for childcare easier for parents.
The new calendar gives faculty and staff additional and consistent opportunities for professional development throughout the year. It also creates data review times for teachers to collectively evaluate student achievement four times per year, as well as providing four specific dates for parent-teacher contact.
The approved calendar meets Wisconsin regulations for instructional time and complies with the September 1, 2012 requirement for the first day of the 2012-13 school year. For a copy of the calendar, please click here.
Established in 1939, the Greendale School District is home to more than 2,600 students. The district prides itself in providing an excellent education for all students from kindergarten through twelfth grade at Greendale High School, Greendale Middle School and three elementary schools (Canterbury, College Park and Highland View).
