Key Points
Below are some key points about the transition to Google Apps for Education:
- Staff will be able to send and receive e-mail using FirstClass through September 30, 2012. Access to Google Apps for Education, including e-mail will be available to faculty and staff starting in early summer.
- Your e-mail address will not change.
- On October 1, 2012, all staff will transition to Google e-mail and Google Apps for Education as their primary e-mail and collaboration tool.
- Productivity software like Microsoft Office and iWork will remain in place for teachers and students during the transition phase. However, it is strongly recommended that teachers explore the Google solutions available to you.
- Support and secretarial staff will continue to have access to Microsoft Office. Training will also be offered to you on how to use Google Apps in Education, including e-mail. It is also worth noting that Google productivity tools are compatible with Microsoft Office file formats.
- FirstClass will continue to exist with limited capabilities and you can access, read and save email during the 2012-13 school year. Please note: you will not be able to use FirstClass to send e-mail or collaborate using FirstClass after October 1, 2012.
