This Week at GHS: September 16
September 15, 2011 | Posted by Steve Lodes

Good Friday Afternoon, Parents:
This was a good week, a full week finally, of classes at Greendale High School. The administrative team is very pleased with all four grade levels and their part in creating a positive school environment through positive student engagement and involvement.
The picture above show some of our academic achievers who not only attended the 1st Quarter Honors Pancake Breakfast on September 13 – they also walked away with some awesome prizes. GHS students who earned at least a 3.0 grade point average for the first quarter, or improved their GPA by 0.5 or better from the previous quarter, were eligible. Teachers, other staff members, administrators, and school board members also came out to congratulate the students and serve them a hearty breakfast.
Homecoming planning is on track and is starting to build momentum. An effort is underway to improve the Homecoming Parade, focusing on more involvement from the GHS athletic teams, the football players, clubs, and groups. Also, student leaders and parent volunteers are working with GHS staff to plan various aspects of the spirit week festivities: pep-assembly, PowderPuff game, parade, and - new this year - a post-game bonfire on Friday night. Convertibles for the Homecoming Court to ride in, trucks and trailers for float building, and supplies for float building are all being sought. If you would like to donate supplies, or are willing to share a convertible, truck, or trailer for Homecoming purposes, please contact Mr. Hansen (shane.hansen@greendale.k12.wi.us) or Ms. Wagner (kate.wagner@greendale.k12.wi.us). More information on Homecoming is included below.
Again, the school year is off to a productive, fun start. Thanks for your continued collaboration, your support, and your high expectations.
Now, in no particular order…
Greendale School District - Annual Meeting
The Greendale School District’s Annual Meeting is set for Monday, September 19, 2011 starting with a Budget Meeting at 7:00 p.m. and the Annual Meeting commences at 7:30 p.m. in the Greendale High School Auditorium. The purpose of this meeting is for the Board of Education to report on the state of the School District, to pass a resolution regarding the tax levy, and to inform citizens about the District budget.
Annual Report Now Available
Greendale Schools released the 2010-11 Annual Report, which highlights student achievement and financial information. For the report, please visit www.greendale.k12.wi.us/annualreport.
As part of the October 12th K-12 District Parent Information Night at Greendale Middle School, the high school break-out session will feature
Trisha Springstead, Financial Aid Advisor, Department of Financial Aid at UW-Milwaukee.
The Financial Aid Workshop is a meeting that is intended to answer those pressing questions that parents have about the process of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is something that all families should do after January 1st of their child's senior year and many that have never done it before, enter this process with a lot of questions. This workshop is designed to answer the questions they may have and go over those items they may not have thought of.
Parents of non-senior students are still encouraged to come whenever their student is in their final year (as the “rules” of this process change yearly), but some may find this information useful if they are asking what they could be doing now to prepare for the FAFSA. This is mainly a parents-only event and usually lasts an hour. More specific information will be provided closer to the event.
ALSO NOTE: We ask that families call Linda Odya, the guidance secretary at (414) 423-0105 to RSVP their attendance. We base the compilation of hand-out packets on the amount of RSVP’s we get.
Haven't had your senior's yearbook photo taken yet? They aren't due until January; however, if you're planning to go to Prestige, have your student stop by Room 111 for a coupon for a $20 sitting. This includes your yearbook headshot, and 10% off any photos you order.
Get ready for Homecoming 2011! September 26 – October 1 marks our Homecoming Week. Celebration of this week kicks off with daily spirit days all week (themes TBD), PowderPuff sports contests, and the Friday Pep Assembly, Parade, GPABC Tailgate, and the Football Game versus Whitnall.
On Saturday, the students will be at the Homecoming dance beginning at 8:00 p.m. Students will not be allowed to enter before 8:00 p.m. (please encourage them to come no sooner than 7:45 because all they do is stand outside and wait for the doors to open). Our savvy upperclassmen often time their arrival for 8:15 to avoid the underclassmen surge. No matter when students arrive, they must be in the doors by 8:30 p.m. Anyone bringing a date from another school must have a completed dance pass form when they attempt to purchase tickets. Forms are available in the Activities Office, or click here to download. Many more details on Homecoming will be part of upcoming Weeklies.
Greendale Panther Athletic Booster Club (GPABC) Homecoming Tailgate
On Friday, September 30, the GPABC will be having their annual tailgate party before the Homecoming game versus the Whitnall Falcons. To purchase tickets, complete the attached order form which will be available at www.greendaleboosterclub.org and send with your payment to the High School c/o GPABC. See you there!
The Greendale Panther Athletic Booster Club was established to promote and encourage a continuing spirit of enthusiasm in and for the Greendale High School athletic program. Specifically, the non-profit civic organization engages in activities which:

- Develop between educators, parents, and the general public, united efforts in order to secure the highest advantages for the Greendale High School student athlete.
- Raise funds in a non-political and non-sectarian manner, which are used to benefit all Greendale High School athletic teams and programs.
- The GPABC has contributed over $500,000 since 1999 to help fund Greendale High School’s 22 boys and girls athletic programs, and facilities.
