Good Afternoon, Greendale High School Families:

This week marks the end of the third quarter. As you may have been able to tell by the fact that there was a teenager(s) sitting in your living room some time after 10:30 a.m. today, we had a half-day as teachers prepared third quarter grades. These will be distributed at our Parent/Teacher Conference night on Wednesday, April 4 and available on PowerSchool officially any time after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Thank you to all who were involved in two of our best events of the year last weekend. Our annual service-learning project, Empty Bowls, was a great success and our Spring Musical “Beauty and the Beast” (picture above) may have been the best musical I have seen in my time here. All students and staff and parents involved in these events should be commended. There was a lot of Greendale School District talent on display at both of these events and a great time was had by all who attended.

Have a very good weekend with your families.

Now, in no particular order of importance...

Check Out Our New Scoreboard

In partnership with private/public funding, the Greendale Panthers Athletic Booster Club (GPABC) and Greendale School District worked together to provide funding for a new wireless scoreboard system in the Greendale High School gymnasium. The new main scoreboard features all of the traditional scoreboard features, but also has the Panther logo and tracks individual player points scored and individual player fouls. A secondary board is perched in the northeast corner of the gym, behind the GHS "Home" bench. The scoreboards operate on a wireless system, which will allow coaches to utilize the boards more efficiently during practices. Thank you to the GPABC and the Greendale School District for working together to provide the student-athletes with a state-of-the-art wireless scoreboard system with a total project cost of $19,700.

Scholarships Update
We have had an unusually low number of seniors applying for scholarships this year. This is concerning because we have many great organizations that are supporting the students of Greendale High School and we have many very deserving students. If you are the parent of a senior, please encourage them to look at the GHS Scholarship page and see if there are any scholarships they qualify for. A few hours of work can certainly pay off in the end. Visit http://www.greendale.k12.wi.us/GHS/guidance/scholarships.html for a comprehensive listing of the local and national scholarships that are available. Contact Mrs. Matlock with any questions you may have.

Looking for Post Prom Committee Members
The parent-run Post Prom Committee is looking for additional members to help coordinate this year's event. Please contact Kitty Goyette at kitty.goyette@gmail.com or (414) 916-1631 to offer your help. Post Prom is held following Prom on May 18 at Marcus Showtime Theater in Franklin.

EchoCardiogram Screening Opportunity
After successful sessions the last two school years, the Champion Hearts group will be returning to Greendale High School to do echocardiogram screenings (which are heart ultrasounds) on Thursday, April 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Greendale High School Nurse's Office. The leading cause of heart-related problems while participating in sports is due to HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), which is a genetic thickening of the heart muscle. One out of every 500 individuals is born with this condition. The heart screenings, which are done by Certified Echocardiographic Technologists and are read by a Cardiologist, are a proactive approach to assure your son or daughter does not have HCM. The screening also evaluates the heart valves and any valve abnormality will be documented so that you can follow-up with your own family physician. A written report of the screening will be mailed to your home as well. If you are interested in signing up your son or daughter please call Champion Hearts at (414) 721-8195 for available appointment times. The screening is $35 and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Additional questions can be addressed on the Champion Hearts website at www.championhearts.com.

Cheerleaders and Poms
The 2012-13 Greendale High School Cheer & Poms information meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18, at 5:45 p.m. in room 103-105 at Greendale High School. This meeting is for all girls who are interested in taking part in Cheer or Poms for the 2012-13 school year. Parents and participants should both attend. There will be a general session with discussion regarding academic requirements, required participation forms and other important information for the season. After the general session, there will be breakout sessions for those interested in either Cheer or Poms. Coaches will discuss expectations for the season, provide information on try-outs, hand out information forms and answer any questions parents may have. For more information, please contact Greendale High School Athletic Director Shane Hansen at 423-0110 x4333 or at shane.hansen@greendale.k12.wi.us.

Support Greendale Park and Recreation by Shopping at The Learning Shop
When you shop The Learning Shop, 5431 S. 76th Street, the week of March 19 through March 25, let the clerk know that you would like your purchase to be credited to the Greendale Park and Recreation Department. The Park and Recreation Department will receive 20% of all GPR purchases made this week in the form of a Learning Shop Gift Card (to benefit the youth/teen programming and child care programs).

The Learning Shop offers bright, far-and-wide choices for bonding, discovering, calculating, experimenting, socializing, creating, pretending, building, moving and grooving with zillions of toys for newborns to 101 year olds. A special thanks to everyone who supported the two fall fundraising opportunities. $383.49 was donated for purchasing educational games for department programs. For the flyer, please click here.
