Local author DJ Slater visited GHS recently to speak to Ms. Hussa's Flex and Creative Writing classes. Mr. Slater talked about the process of becoming a published author, shared a bit about his book, and led students in some writing exercises. It was a fantastic experience! Many thanks for sharing your expertise with our students!

In Indianapolis at Bands of America competition, our Marching Band created their absolute best performance of the season! Their showing at BoA was a huge improvement over last year and they loved entertaining the audience with their Snow Angel production. While scores and placements are relative from year to year, there is no denying an almost 8-point jump from last year, along with a jump of 26 places overall (85th overall in 2024 to 59th overall this year). A huge THANK YOU to everyone who made the trip down to Indy, whether in volunteer or spectator fashion. We’re not done yet – on to Pasadena and California for the Parade of Roses.

Freshman Evie Bock was not simply content with her great performance at the Conference Meet where she earned 2nd team All Conference honors, she took it a step further at Sectionals and pushed her limits. Evie was seeded 13th going into the Sectional Meet, but once the gun went off she got out fast and latched on to the lead pack. Over the next three miles she slowly picked the group apart one by one. By the time she crossed the finish line she took 6th overall, broke her previous personal record by 18 seconds, and qualified for the State Meet. Good luck at State, Evie!!

A group of Greendale students attended the "Heavy Metals Tour" event at MATC to learn about several high demand fields incorporating Engineering and Metalwork. The annual event is held in partnership with the "MATC Metallica Trades Program" a collaboration with Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI). This national program, run by the band Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation, provides funding to community colleges to enhance their career and technical education programs. MATC has received grants from MSI to support students in various skilled trades, including welding, HVAC, and manufacturing, with scholarships, safety gear, and other resources.

Our students took part in hands-on opportunities in a variety of trades careers during the event. The Greendale team also won the coveted Structural Engineering contest over several other schools to take the yearly prize.

Tuesday, October 21, our Juniors took the practice ACT test. The overall goal of giving the practice ACT is to give our junior students exposure to the new online ACT format and to provide students/families/school with feedback that can be used when preparing for the "real" state level online ACT test that all of the juniors in the State of WI will take in March. This practice ACT uses actual, retired ACT questions and provides a valid predictor (score) of how students might do on the March ACT test. This score on the practice ACT, and information on how each student can improve their score, will be reported sometime in December.
