Third-grade students celebrated the successful completion of their animal research unit by going on a safari. They had to use their knowledge of animal groups to earn badges. It was tricky, but no one got eaten by crocodiles! They relaxed with animal crackers afterward.
The 21-time consecutive WSMA State Champion GHS Marching Band performed its annual stadium show for GMS Band students and the elementary school students this week. Students enjoyed a special walking trip to GHS for a performance by the acclaimed band and were thrilled by the band's creative set, which highlighted the incredible talent across our district.
The first graders at Highland View have been busy learning all about the human body. Students learned about each of the major body systems and how these systems work together as a network to keep everyone alive and well. They worked together to write informational sentences to teach others about the primary function of each system. They also learned about the 5 keys to health: eating healthy food, exercising daily, sleep, good hygiene and getting check-ups. First grade finished up the unit by exploring the food pyramid and the importance of nutritious food.
Third grade has been working hard in Math building a thinking classroom! Students have been showing their addition and subtraction knowledge through math forums and small-group work. They also are practicing their number sense by working on skip counting and expanded form in number corner!
Fifth graders engaged in writing exercises such as a sensory walk and charades in order to grow their descriptive writing skills.
Third graders have been busy! They learned a new math game, called Blast Off to Space, to help them practice their subtraction facts. They also learned how to summarize a story and started practicing this skill!
Music class is off to a great start this school year at Highland View! Students from every grade level and classroom have already gotten their hands on some instruments and are starting to dive into our engaging Quaver Curriculum. They are learning/reviewing topics such as beat, steady beat, meter, and ostinatos to get the students ready for even more music fun. They also had a visit from Ms. Schroepfer who introduced 4th and 5th grade students to orchestra. If your child loves music, this is a friendly reminder that 3rd-5th graders can sign up for choir, and 4th-5th graders can sign up for orchestra. Cheers to a wonderful school year and lots of music memories to come!
Our kindergarten learners are getting settled into the school routine and are enjoying being part of the Highland View family! They are learning routines, eating lunch at school and going to specials classes for the first time and exploring the playground. In the classroom, students are learning how to use school tools, enjoying stories and math and most of all , making new friends! It is going to be a great year!

Child Development Days 2026-2027 Dates Set
Child Development Days screening is available to all Greendale resident children 3-4 years of age who are NOT enrolled in Greendale Schools' 4K Program. The event is held at Highland View, 5900 South 51st Street, and offers important screening of your child(ren)'s school readiness, including: speech and language development, reading readiness, social-emotional maturity, fine and gross motor skills and vision and hearing. Families also receive information on normal child growth and development and have access to developmental resources and informational handouts. Participants can share refreshments and receive a free gift for their children. Child Development Days are held on select dates by appointment only. Schedule an appointment by calling (414) 423-2713.

Back to School Check In/OLR will open on Wednesday, July 15. This annual review is REQUIRED of all Greendale Schools’ families. It is an opportunity to review and confirm or update student and family information.
Reviewing this information takes place in Infinite Campus and ensures the school has the most accurate information on student enrollment, correct address and contact information for families, emergency contact details, and health and demographic information for your children. This process must be completed BEFORE the first day of school, September 1, 2026. Student Fees are also due at that time.
Watch for an email message when the Infinite Campus portal is available for OLR. Families must have an Infinite Campus PARENT PORTAL account to complete this process. Please make sure you have an account and can access it. This is the same account you use to review your student(s) report cards. Thank you!
Greendale's Junior Panthers U8 Baseball Program is open to incoming 1st and 2nd graders! This is a great opportunity for young players to learn the game, build skills, and represent their hometown team. Tryouts for the team are coming soon, Wednesdays, July 15 and 22, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at Highland View Field. As an outdoor event, focused on having a safe summer, we're obviously prioritizing participant safety, and that means we had to make the sad decision to cancel the event tonight. We're brainstorming ways to bring the event back some time this summer, and hope we'll still be able to showcase all the fun, safe, and enriching opportunities our community has to offer!
For those of you willing to brave the weather, a few kids activities will still be available in the community room downstairs in the Greendale Library between 3:00-7:00PM.

Our 4K students were excited to watch the stages of the butterfly life cycle right before their eyes! They observed live caterpillars grow, transform into chrysalises, and emerge as beautiful butterflies. What a fun way to bring science to life!
Highland View 4th graders visited Greendale's historic Trimborn Farm. While there, students learned about the quarry and limestone manufacturing and the dairy farm. They had fun learning about our local history and what life was like many years ago.
Our 5th graders have started their unit on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. To get to know the characters, students were asked to find a line in the play, and Freeze Frame it. They had a lot of fun acting out their lines and guessing characters! It is one of their favorite units and it is a great way to end the year! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence
Highland View grade 2–5 multilingual learners shared their creativity and dreams through a special writing and art project about the future. Students drew self-portraits wearing “future glasses” and wrote about what they hope to be when they grow up, along with fun goals and adventures they want to experience this summer. Through colorful artwork and personal writing, students practiced expressing ideas in English while sharing their unique interests, goals, and imaginations with pride.
On May 5, our three grade schools enjoyed unforgettable all-school field trips to Franklin Field! All our elementary students came together to spent a beautiful, sunny morning cheering on the Milwaukee Panthers for their annual School Day game. Before the first pitch, our students got to enjoy the interactive TMJ4 Weather Show, and once the game started, the energy in the stands was absolutely electric. The Panthers didn't disappoint, rallying to a thrilling 6-4 victory over Valparaiso! Our students represented Greendale Schools wonderfully with their great behavior and loud cheers. A huge thank you to all of our staff and the Milwaukee Panthers staff for making this massive logistics puzzle a safe, smooth, and incredibly fun day for everyone!
