Highland View is filled with students ready to take on leadership roles! Since October, a wonderful group of 4th and 5th grade students have taken time upon arrival to pick up some of our kindergarten students to take a "counting walk." With individual goals in place, our counting buddies counted in unison with their 5K friends, counted objects along their walk, and listened as their buddy counted. Most importantly, they offered excited smiles and praise, encouraging our youngest learners to keep trying to reach their counting goals.

Music class at Highland View has been a whirlwind in December! From working hard on learning their songs, to their rehearsal and concert at the high school, to enjoying some much-needed relaxing/fun time, the students have mastered it all. The last week before break, as a celebration, they had movie days and instrument days where they got to just play fun songs! We can't wait to see what they accomplish when they return after Winter Break!

Fifth graders at Highland View recently wrapped up their CKLA unit on the Early American Civilizations-the Maya, Aztec, and Inca! To showcase their learning, students created their own three-panel “codex” projects, modeled after the ancient manuscripts written on papyrus. Each panel focused on one civilization they learned about during the unit exploring topics like architecture, social classes, or farming.
