Fifth graders at Highland View recently wrapped up their CKLA unit on the Early American Civilizations-the Maya, Aztec, and Inca! To showcase their learning, students created their own three-panel “codex” projects, modeled after the ancient manuscripts written on papyrus. Each panel focused on one civilization they learned about during the unit exploring topics like architecture, social classes, or farming.

October “Highland View PAW-some Award” Winners Enjoy Their Prize!
These Highland View Panthers enjoyed their "PAW-some" award prize today -- a school tour with Mr. Bob! Each month, students from each 5K-5th-grade classroom, as well as the specials classes, are recognized by staff for their “above and beyond” demonstrations of what it means to be “PAW-some” (safe, respectful, responsible, and kind) at Highland View. These students are ambassadors of our school-wide expectations and display the positive qualities of a hard-working student, a good citizen, and a role model in our learning community. Their reward is special handling at lunch and then each selects a reward from a prize menu.

Our third grade students listened to the book "Be Kind" read-out-loud by 5th grade students from all three Greendale elementary schools. (All our elementary students will be hearing this story and doing follow-up activities.) They then had discussions and created illustrations with captions about how they plan to be kind to themselves, their friends/family, their classroom, and the planet! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence

Highland View students have been exploring various classroom instruments in Music class. They are encouraged to follow the steady beat or explore making their own rhythms. As the school year continues they will use these skills to play other, more complicated instruments. They have fun putting songs, movement, and instruments together. Our little musicians will be pros before we know it! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence
