Snow day on March 16, 2026
The first week in March was a fun dress-up week at Highland View as we celebrated Read Across America week. Students enjoyed a book read-aloud in class each day as well. That Friday, we enjoyed the G.O.A.T. movie all-school field trip together, to celebrate a successful second Trimester.

March is designated as Youth Art Month and our Greendale Schools' student artists are showcasing the creativity, talent, and hard work that comes with creating works of art. The Greendale Public Library has a selected display of artwork from all of the Greendale schools. These works will be at the library through the month of March only. Please visit the art show and share this experience with your family.

Highland View Kindergarteners have been learning all about keeping their bodies healthy! Throughout this exciting unit, the students explored their bones and discovered how they protect and support them. They also learned about the important jobs their body systems do each day, including the brain, lungs, heart, and digestive system. Our kindergarteners discussed the different food groups and how making healthy choices helps nourish their growing bodies. To celebrate the end of the unit, they took a very exciting trip to Altius Gymnastics! They put their strong, healthy bodies to work as they jumped on trampolines, tackled an obstacle course, soared in a giant bucket swing, and raced into the foam pit, where they had to use extra strength to make it through. They love learning about their healthy bodies and had so much fun discovering new things both in and outside of school!

Highland View Kindergartens are now 100 days brighter! To celebrate this special day, the students dressed in neon colors and used the number 100 in many creative ways. They shared what they would want 100 of, used the numbers 1-0-0 to create fun pictures, and wrote about how they would spend $100. During our special 100th Day centers, students built with 100 cups, created designs with playdough and 100 straws, and decorated posters with 100 stickers. The entire school came out to support our kindergarteners as they paraded around the building. We are so proud of our 100 days of learning and growing together!

Students in reading group at Highland View are learning about the RACE strategy, a tool used when composing a written response to an answer. By learning to Restate, Answer, Cite evidence, and Explain their written answer the students are composing stronger, more complete answers that are backed up with evidence from the text. Continued practice using the RACE strategy will result in students generating a more thorough and insightful written response.

Highland View 4th graders visited JA BizTown, a simulation where students work together in businesses to learn how an economy and community work. They earn paychecks for their work, support the town's businesses by shopping at them, all while working together to help their community run smoothly. We are also incredibly proud of our students for the positive way they represented Greendale at BizTown. They demonstrated leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, and we received wonderful feedback about their behavior and effort. Great job, Panthers! #LearnGrowEngageGreendale #CultivatingExcellence #PantherPride

Highland View is filled with students ready to take on leadership roles! Since October, a wonderful group of 4th and 5th grade students have taken time upon arrival to pick up some of our kindergarten students to take a "counting walk." With individual goals in place, our counting buddies counted in unison with their 5K friends, counted objects along their walk, and listened as their buddy counted. Most importantly, they offered excited smiles and praise, encouraging our youngest learners to keep trying to reach their counting goals.

Highland View Student Leadership Team celebrates hugely successful book drive
Music class at Highland View has been a whirlwind in December! From working hard on learning their songs, to their rehearsal and concert at the high school, to enjoying some much-needed relaxing/fun time, the students have mastered it all. The last week before break, as a celebration, they had movie days and instrument days where they got to just play fun songs! We can't wait to see what they accomplish when they return after Winter Break!
