Students have embraced showing responsibility within our College Park community throughout October. Students showed responsibility throughout the school building and outside on the playground. Within our classrooms students analyzed ways they can be responsible and also set goals. It's been a great month! Students who displayed exemplary RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY were acknowledged at the November 4 assembly. To further celebrate our PBIS goal, this Friday is "Rainbow Day"! Students are invited to wear their favorite colors, dressing head to toe in one color or in a rainbow themed outfit.

This month, in keeping with our focus on gratitude, we are participating in the Greendale Public Safety Services Food Drive, which is collecting non-perishable boxed and canned foods for St. Alphonsus' Food Pantry.

For the next three weeks, we will gather the following items: cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, canned pasta and meats, pasta/noodles, soup, pork and beans, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, paper products (toilet paper and tissues), and baby items (food, formula, wipes). Additionally, we would like to also collect birthday cake kits so that families can celebrate birthdays, too. These kits should be labeled "Birthday Kit" and include: a box of cake mix, a can of frosting, a can of soda like Sprite, and a disposable cake pan.

Thank you for your support in helping put food on the table and making a difference!

Second graders closed out their unit on Ancient Asian Civilizations in mid October. Mrs. Setty so generously agreed to share about the Hindu celebration of Diwali, aka "The Festival of Lights". She shared a slideshow and brought in decorations that would be displayed during the celebration of this holiday. Students were so engaged and excited to make connections to their learning throughout the unit, as well as deepen their understanding.

Coming to conferences tonight? Have a few extra pairs of socks? College Park students have been working with the 4th grade team to collect new socks for those in need. The goal is to collect 700 pairs of socks by the end of October and the students have about 250 pairs left to collect. If you’re able, bring a pair or two tonight to put in the box outside your child’s classroom. Thank you!

First graders at College Park showcased their understanding of the Human Body Systems Knowledge Unit recently with some fun activities. Students visited "Human Body" stations that highlighted the various body functions they learned about. Our students exercised, discussed the digestive system and healthy eating, tested their understanding of the skeletal system and the nervous system, and heard a story about the circulatory system! Many thanks to special guests from our community, Mr. Jack and Nurse Cathy, who shared their expertise.
